This is one of the most important parts of For A Better America. Read what other users have written, reply to their Thoughts, and if you have something new to say, create your own Thought here. This is your opportunity to tell people how you feel about this idea, and more importantly, to tell them why you feel that way.

If you think that's a lot of water, any restaurant would probably double water waste in serving unasked cups, washing dishes by hand then in the dishwasher, and spills. Car washes are designed to waste water.
And the biggest misuse of water isn't Starbucks, by a long shot.
It's bottled water.
There are thousands of brands of bottled water. America spends 8 billion dollars a year on it.
A study from Oregon State University:
"Around the world, factories are using more than 18 million barrels of oil and up to 130 billion gallons of fresh water" and that's just to make the bottles, "Another 41 billion gallons of water is then used to fill them."
It costs more per gallon for bottled water than for gasoline.

there were 12,440 Starbuck's Stores all over the world in 2006. imagine if every of those stores just wastes 20 gallons a day... that makes 248,800 gallons a day worldwide. that's almost 91 million gallons a year...
now, that's what I call wasting money...

I agree Jing, on both counts. ;)
It does sadden me when people have thirty minute showers, leave the tap on when they brush their teeth, sprinkle their lawns when it just rained, wash their cars every week, and so on. You would be surprised to see how much water waste I see at Starbucks - i bet we waste at least 40 gallons a day when we don't need it.
