"One person, one vote" is the ultimate essence of democracy. The electoral college is a step in the opposite direction. I would rather every single small state feel disenfranchised than see even one person feel that their vote doesn't matter. Putting the ability to elect the president more directly into the hands of the citizens may not always ensure the best candidate gets elected (like they ever ****ing do anyways), but will encourage more of a feeling of responsibility in each voter as to how their country is run.
