    My Top 5  — 4 months ago

I'm way into John Prine, Jeff Tweedy, and Jason Molina (of Magnolia Electric Co. and Songs: Ohia). Some of the newer freak folk stuff is a little much (like Devendra Banhart and Will Oldham) but I can still handle if it I am in a certain mood.

This was a pretty tricky list to come up with:
    1. Hammer Down, Magnolia Electric Co.
    2. Spanish Pipedream, John Prine
    3. Remember The Mountain Bed, lyrics by Woody Guthrie and music by Jeff Tweedy
    4. Be Not So Fearful, Bill Fay (covered by Jeff Tweedy)
    5. Fish and Whistle, John Prine

I definitely love John Prine, Bruce Cockburn, James Taylor, Bob Dylan, David Wilcox, and Joe Purdy.
I highly recommend Joe Purdy's album "Julie Blue."

Listening only to folk would be hard for me, but I really think more people should give it a chance. It's kind of a funny word and all, but the lyrics can be stunning and the music can be the perfect thing at the end of a long day.
