    I agree is would be great to have third language programs (there are in many schools already), but we need to build our second language programs first. Especially now that our population is rapidly including Spanish speakers, we need to become competent in Spanish. Although you consider our second language programs "ridiculous," i have to say the bulk of the blame rests in the people unwilling or uninterested in learning.

    If we want to teach Latin, that's fine, but we need to be spending more money on the up-and-coming languages, like Arabic, Chinese, Russian and Portuguese.
